Join Our Group

The 1st Danbury Scout Group welcomes new adult and youth members (male and female) in all sections. Scouting by its very nature is an organisation that embraces diversity. We strongly believe that all individuals have a right to be treated fairly, regardless of their age, gender, socio-economic status, ability, sexual orientation, ethnicity or faith and beliefs. To find our more, take a look at the Scout Association’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

Whilst we would love to offer places as soon as they’re requested for potential Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, we do currently have a waiting list.

If you would like to add your child’s details to our waiting list, please use our OSM (Online Scout Manager) joining form linked below to add your child to the waiting list. Our waiting list co-ordinator will get in touch with you to confirm your details.

Waiting List Policy

To make sure everyone gets a fair opportunity to join our group, we have a waiting list policy which outlines: how to join the waiting list, priorities when allocating places, and how you will be offered a place. This policy can be viewed by clicking here.

Volunteering with young people and our group

Team player? Love supporting young people? Great at planning?

Most of our volunteers work directly with young people aged 4-18 through our Squirrels, Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer sections – helping young people gain skills for life through activities and adventures.

Working in teams, you might:

      • Welcome young people and families to sessions and events.

      • Make sure everyone’s safe, supported, included and having fun.

      • Help to plan and lead activities.

      • Get involved with days out, camps and expeditions.

      • Share and learn skills – from coding to cake decorating to canoeing.

      • Celebrate young people’s achievements big and small.

No previous experience with young people? No problem. Whether you’d like to help out week-after-week or whenever-you-can, have a look at our volunteering opportunities page, or contact us if you think you’re better suited to a different role.
